Gum Disease, Receding Gums And Dry Mouth

Dry mouth is one of the common cause of gum disease or periodontal disease. Before doctors used to think that dry mouth or xerostomia is common in the aging process but it isn't. Healthy adults should not be experiencing a problem with saliva. Dry mouth occurs when salivary glands is not functioning well, it increases the risk of gum and tooth problems, receding gums, bleeding gums and gingivitis. Medication is also one factor that causes dry mouth. A sticky dry feeling in the mouth is the indication of dry mouth and a burning and dry feeling in the mouth and tongue added. Mouth sores, cracked lips and rough tongue may also occur.

The saliva is every essential in our daily dental health it does not only make the mouth the mouth wet but also protects it from bacteria and tooth decay. Chewing and swallowing would not be possible without saliva. There are several reasons why dry mouth occur it could be a side effect of some medications, poor oral health hygiene or even illness.

Still the most important is to practice proper oral hygiene to prevent periodontal disease from occurring.  And using alcohol- free oral rinses can be a great help too in the prevention process of periodontal disease. Having dental check ups is also important early signs and symptoms of oral health problems can be diagnosed at its early stage thus preventing it from progression.
