Swollen Gums' Culprits

When gums becomes red in appearance, puffy, tender and hurts and bleeds easily during brushing then you are having the manifestation of swollen gums and gum disease. Persistent swollen gums will progress to periodontal disease and may even cause further destruction to the gums and may even cost tooth to be lost, gum infection takes place when swollen gums are left untreated affecting gum tissues and bones that supports the teeth.

What causes swollen gums and gum disease to occur is gum infection from bacteria. With poor oral hygiene, bacteria is allowed to build up forming into plaque producing acids and toxins that causes gum infection resulting to inflammation and swelling of gums. Toothpastes and mouthwashes may be also a reason for swelling of gums as an allergic reaction to its active chemical ingredients.

Culprits of swollen gums – bacteria may be avoided by having a good oral hygiene which includes regular brushing and flossing of teeth and by using oral care products that contains natural ingredients for they do not cause irritation to gums
